Testing Schedule:24 hrs/day, 7 days/week
Turn Around Time:STAT: 1 hour  
 Routine: 2 hours  
Collection Information:Specimen should be collected a minimum of 30 minutes after physical exercise. Obtain specimen by standard collection procedures. Place specimen on ice immediately.
Transport Information:Deliver to lab immediately on ice. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory.
Reference Clients:If unable to deliver to the lab immediately (within 15 minutes), centrifuge the specimen and remove the plasma from the red cells. Store and transport at 2-8° C. Specimen (plasma or CSF) must be received in the lab within 24 hours.
Causes for Rejection:Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, incorrect/delay in transport.
Reference Range:Plasma (venous): 0.7-2.1 mmol/L
 Critical: > 5 mmol/L

 Neonate:1.1-6.7 mmol/L 
 3-10 days old:1.1-4.4 mmol/L 
 > 10 days old:1.1-2.8 mmol/L 
 Adult:1.1-2.4 mmol/L 
Additional Information:Do not use serum specimens.
